Class tonight was great! My wife and I went through some penetrating inside and outside the line of attack and letting the perpetrator's force cause the injury. Then stepping through and continuing the defense until the attacker is non-functional.
Jeannette was having a hard time with the movement, she felt she wasn't striking hard enough. I assured her, through my own personal pain, that her strikes were not only on target, but also with enough force to cause pain! (I think the bruise to my sternum area will heal).
She is still a little sore from the elbow strikes we were working on, but getting the hang of things quickly, believe me!
I still think she feels it should be more complicated than it is, but is a fast learner and is starting to grasp how easy it is to cause injury to you attacker, if you know where and how to strike.
Maybe Saturday we will have dry enough weather to work on multiple attackers and more ground work.
See you there.

I may never really say what everyone wants to hear. But this is a place where I will talk about real violence and how to survive it. Its not pretty, but neither is death. Please post comments or question to my blog.

Monday's class
So, I think we are going to pick up where we left off Saturday.
We are going to work on an attack as you are entering/exiting your vehicle. And do some refresher training on different grabs, ground techniques and maybe well throw some tools in as well.
Remember, the criminal that I hope you will never have to face doesn't care at all if you are married, have kids, or volunteer at the local hospital. If you are standing between him and what he wants......you may not survive, unless you adopt the same ruthless "do unto him before he does unto me" attitude and couple that with defending yourself with the same violence that he will use on you.
Hope to see you there.

ksl.com - KSL 5 Investigates: Danger in public places
http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=14334658
These are some pretty staggering statistics to keep in mind, and it is something that everyone should think about.
While I don't advocate living in fear of going out into public places, I do recommend being prepared for the worst, even if you never have to use it.

I just dont have the time.......
I actually hear this a lot from people when you talk to them about all sorts of things. From mowing the lawn, to taking a nap, to seeing old friends. I can actually relate to some of the reasons people will give for putting off certain things. It is much easier to put off until tomorrow what you should/could do today.
But lets look at some cold hard facts:
Most victims of violent attacks never saw the attack coming.
Most didn't realize that there was more than one predator because they didn't see them until it was too late.
Most didn't think that the attack would happen to them, in MY neighborhood, workplace, city, town, state etc.
Most were not prepared for the violence that consumed them in a very short and quick time.
Most didn't realize that the criminal had the knife, until they saw all of the blood.
This list can go on and on.......
One thing I can tell you is that very few (And I mean a fraction of a percent) of people in the US are ever ready to be a victim of a violent crime (I know my mother wasn't). That is because they never EVER take the time necessary to train themselves for that time. They always have excuses on why they just don't have the time to do it......I want to.....but my schedule is just too busy.
Try telling the man holding the gun to your head as he robs you, or the knife to your throat as he rapes you and see what he tells you. I don't think if you told him that you haven't had the time to train, that he will say "Oh, I am truly sorry, I will be happy to come back when you are more trained to take me out!" Why do you think that you are his victim in the first place? The Hyenas in the wild do not pick out the biggest most prepared animal before they pounce, they choose the easiest target, and they hunt in packs. What do you think the mentality of the urban predator is?
If you don't take the time to train the right way, you will NEVER be ready when the time comes.
Until next time.

Tonight's class
Well, it didn't rain! WOOHOO! Had a lot of fun tonight. Went over a front and rear choke and also a rear grab and lift. For some reason, Jeannette kept putting me on my butt! My upper lip and right eye socket where she popped me a few times are sore but not broken. She has a very good aim and can pinpoint and attack targets very well.
I was showing her how to rotate the head while penetrating the balance of the attacker and I think a tweaked my sons neck a bit too much. Luckily he's tough and will survive.
On Saturday, I think we will work on what happens if you are attacked while getting into/out of your vehicle. Fun times. Until then...

Wednesday's class
Well, the sunshine is out today and I think class is going to be good. We will take back up where we left off with some knife attacks and being that a lot of attacks end up on the ground, we will continue with what to do if you get thrown down on the ground.
We may also play around with some more chokes and rear attacks.
Remember, your first line of defense against ANY attack is not to put yourself in the sights of a predator in the first place.
See you tonight!

Training
Well, training had to be called due to some pretty gnarly lightning strikes. But before we had to stop, we were able to go over a couple knife techniques and some attacks from the ground. The grass didn't feel that wet when we were warming up, but when we hit the ground, it splashed! Too much fun! Come play with us on Wednesday from 6 to 8pm. See you then

Training
So, tonight's class, unless called due to a storm, escaping and attacking from the ground, and defending against a bladed tool. I may also spend some more time on the psyche of the attacker and how to dismantle his/her brain in the process.
Hope to see you there.

Wednesday training
So, today we worked on defending and attacking from a front choke and rear choke. I was training with my wife and son. I realized something, my wife is very comfortable with using violence to survive! She can strike very hard and has the ability to strike the right target......I will probably be bruised or sore. I definitely won't have to worry if someone attacks her....she will destroy them! Hope to see you on Saturday! Until next time

Pulling the wool OFF of ones eyes.
There are still a lot of people in this world who live in a dream-like world where nothing will ever happen to me here in "Pleasantville."
What most people fail to realize is that true acts of violence are random and the people that show themselves to be weak and timid are the ones who the criminal will pick out to attack!
You don't have to lead the lamb to the slaughter, the slaughter will find the lamb!
True a-social types will search out their victim regardless of where you live or what your "status" is, they will actively seek out the easiest target based on how you reveal yourself to them.
The only way to stop the attack is to portray yourself as the one that is a force to be reckoned with and that you will not give them anything easy.
Until next time........

Saturdays class
Today my son told me he wanted to really explore deeper into the Bujinkan, so we worked a little on rolls, strikes and the basics of the Kihon Happo. Good workout today, felt good to hit the ground again.
Mondays class will cover more on the KH and being a good uke and also some good ukeme.
If more people show up we will get more into the concepts of Self Preservation and avoiding violence, or kicking its butt if its not avoidable.
Hope to see you there.....
